What is the ongoing problem?
Poverty is a powerful risk factor for child well-being and mental health which disproportionately affects minority children and families. New Mexico has one of the highest child poverty levels in the United States. In 2023 New Mexico ranked 49th of 50 states in the level of child poverty and last of all 50 states in overall child well-being.
What is this program doing to solve the problem?
This is a follow-up study of 2-3-year-olds among families who previously participated in the New Mexico PRAMS pregnancy study. By collecting data on risk and protective factors in New Mexico families, we hope to understand better what factors will help young children and their families thrive.
