Mission and Goals

Mission

The mission of the NM CARES Health Disparities Center is to create a vigorous, self-sustaining, research center that advances the scientific base of knowledge about interventions and solutions to health disparities in New Mexico with a focus on Southwestern indigenous Native American and Hispanic communities.

Our Goals

  1. Advance the science of interventions to eliminate health disparities among Southwestern Native American and Hispanic communities.
  2. Translate theory-based interventions aimed at eliminating health disparities.
  3. Apply Community-Based Participatory Research approaches to disparities intervention research.
  4. Coordinate University of New Mexico disparity-related research resources.
  5. Enhance investigator's abilities to compete for National Institute of Health disparity-related research grants.
  6. Build partnerships between UNM investigators and community collaborators residing in communities suffering health disparities.
