We want our students in the Sandoval County community to succeed. That's why we're holding the Health Careers Academy summer program in collaboration with the HSC Office for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. We encourage high school juniors interested in pursuing a career in the medical field to consider applying for this special opportunity.

The four-week program begins in June. It is open to 20 students attending a school in Sandoval County, the deadline to apply is in the spring. Students selected for the program, along with a parent or guardian, must attend a mandatory orientation.
The University of New Mexico College of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) via our Pre-Licensure Basic Entry Option at the UNM Health Sciences Campus (HSC) Rio Rancho.
This program is for students who do not currently hold an RN license and have no prior nursing experience. Classes, clinical experiences and all other required nursing program activities will be held at UNM HSC Rio Rancho and surrounding communities.
While in clinical courses, students will experience hands-on learning in hospitals and other health care settings under the supervision of nursing faculty. On BSN completion, students will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN) licensing exam with the New Mexico State Board of Nursing.
Students interested in becoming a medical assistant can take classes to earn a certificate through the UNM HSC Office for Community Health and Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) program. Courses are held at the UNM HS Rio Rancho campus and you can sign up through CNM.
Medical assistants are charged with administrative and clinical duties in a variety of health care settings. The 36-hour certificate of completion program helps students to gain the knowledge, skills and professional training required for the entry-level positions.
The UNM College of Education Special Education practicum for teachers-in-training, which serves Rio Rancho Public Schools, holds classes at our campus.
