We provide our students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to practice safe, effective, evidence based and patient-centered medicine. Five of our departments are consistently ranked in the top 40 National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant-funded departments in the nation.

We offer 55 programs certified by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, and 1 program accredited by the American Dental Association. Our curriculum contains a variety of experiences in internationally renowned clinical and research programs, with more than 700 faculty.

UNM is one of only two ACCME-accredited national providers in New Mexico. The UNM Office of Continuing Medical Education also jointly provides programs with non-accredited providers. to practicing physicians and interprofessional teams to improve patient outcomes.

The School of Medicine is a major part of the health care infrastructure for the state of New Mexico, with programs in 141 communities. The UNM Health System provides comprehensive health services to central New Mexico and serves the entire state as the referral center for Level 1 Trauma and for many specialty adult and pediatric medical and surgical services.
