Arab American Heritage Month Learning Resources
National Arab American Heritage Month is an annual celebration of the achievements and contributions of Arab Americans during the month of April. In 2017, two organizations, Arab America and the Arab America Foundation, launched National Arab American Heritage Month. Since then, at least 26 states have recognized the month of April as Arab American Heritage Month through hundreds of state, county, municipality, and school district proclamations. Additionally, in 2024, President Joseph Biden signed a proclamation to officially recognize April 2024 as National Arab American Heritage Month.
With more than 3.7 million Arab Americans currently present in the United States, it is important to recognize the valuable contributions in virtually every aspect of American culture: in medicine, law, business, education, technology, military service, cultural vibrancy, etc. In the UNM HSC Office for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, we believe that Arab cultural enrichment within our country, and more locally, The University of New Mexico, should be celebrated and more recognized widely.
