The Distinguished Alumni Award was created to recognize those alumni who have led remarkable careers in nursing and have advanced the nursing profession.
Jazmin Chavez is a proud UNM College of Nursing alumna who graduated magna cum laude with a minor in Psychology. She is passionate about helping others and providing compassionate care that makes patients feel heard and supported.
Carolyn Jaramillo has experience in dialysis, home health, hospice, the operating room, school nursing and long-term care. Throughout her career, Carolyn has remained passionate about providing patient-centered care while leading with integrity and empathy. As a first-generation doctoral student, Carolyn understands the value of perseverance, hard work and lifelong learning. Her doctoral work focuses on developing nurse leader-driven strategies to improve nurse retention, create healthier work environments and strengthen the quality of patient care. She believes strong leaders never stop learning and inspire others by serving with compassion.
Johanna Stiesmeyer’s career has been dedicated to advancing the nursing profession through clinical excellence, strategic leadership, innovation and education. Beginning as a critical care nurse, she built a strong clinical foundation that evolved into leading interdisciplinary teams, developing innovative programs and creating workforce strategies to strengthen healthcare organizations and improve patient care. Throughout her career, Johanna has been passionate about preparing nurses at every stage, from helping new graduates as they transition into practice to developing nurse leaders and equipping DNP-prepared nurses to translate evidence into practice and transform healthcare systems.
