Students hone their skills in the Interprofessional Healthcare Simulation Center (IHSC), a 28,000‑square‑foot facility designed for hands-on learning.
Our skills labs mirror hospital settings, with six to eight beds in each room where students can learn alongside faculty and classmates.
Before entering clinical settings, our students develop both basic and advanced nursing skills in a supportive environment.
Faculty guide students as they use task trainers – lifelike models designed to help them practice specific procedures.
Students practice core nursing skills such as IV insertion, wound care, and patient positioning.
Become familiar with the same equipment and supplies you'll encounter in clinical settings and throughout your nursing career.
Then it's time to put those skills into action. In simulation, students apply what they've learned with our high-fidelity manikins.
Behind the scenes, instructors can operate the manikin from a control room. As students make decisions, the patient's condition can change in real time.
High‑fidelity manikins act like real people. They can talk with you, blink, and even bleed. You can hear and feel their heart and lungs, check their pulse and monitor their vitals.
Whether portraying a patient, family member or caregiving, standardized patients help students develop communication skills.
Every scenario is designed to strengthen clinical judgment and prepare students for the realities of patient care.
Take care of even the smallest patient. Care looks different at every stage of life. Our simulation experiences reflect that reality.
After simulation, students can gather in debriefing rooms to discuss what happened, reflect on decisions and learn from one another.
Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse-Midwifery, and Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner students also use these clinical spaces to work with standardized patients.
