Earn your dual master’s degree in Latin American Studies and Public Health and you could help improve the health of Latin American and Latinx populations in the United States. A dual degree in MALAS and MPH will focus on the languages, cultures, and societies of Latin America and help you prepare for a career in identifying and overcoming health disparities within immigrant populations. This dual degree program only requires 63 credits.
Acquire public health knowledge and skills on your way to becoming a medical doctor. Earn an MD/MPH and strengthen your medical skills with public health approaches to reduce health disparities, assess population needs, foster evidence-based interventions and strengthen physician advocacy and leadership in policy.
To begin a dual degree in MD/MPH, apply to each program individually. You must meet the admissions requirements of both programs to be eligible.
Design your own dual degree program at UNM. Individual dual degrees must be completed in the same semester. You will prepare a written rationale for your program and provide a chart with requirements for both degrees, including shared credit hours.
The Public Health program director, your advisors in both programs and the director of the other degree program must agree on your proposal.
If you are in a doctoral program other than medicine, you may pursue a Master of Public Health degree. Please contact the Public Health program director for more information.
Students must enter both chosen degree programs at the same time in order to participate in the dual degree program. Students already enrolled in another program may not be eligible to enroll for a dual degree. Students must also work with an academic advisor to ensure that classes from both programs are finished simultaneously.
