UNM Center of Excellence for Transdisciplinary Research, Equity and Engagement presents COVID-19 policy findings and addresses vaccine equity at national conference
Carlos Linares Koloffon, MD, MPH will present "The Intersection of Social Vulnerability, number of cases, and the government response during the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States" on November 9, 2022, as part of the 150th-anniversary celebration and 2022 annual meeting of the American Public Health Association (APHA). The findings of his research, in close collaboration with Dr. Lisa Cacari Stone and Mr. Blake Boursaw, highlight the role of social inequity in reducing the effectiveness of US state government COVID-19 responses in 2020.
Dr. Linares is a research scientist at the Transdisciplinary Research, Equity and Engagement (TREE) Center for Advancing Behavioral Health at UNM, a Center of Excellence funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, and part of the WEAVE (Wide Engagement for Accessing COVID-19 Vaccine Equity) NM research team. Lisa Cacari Stone, PhD, MS, MA, is the Executive Director and co-PI of the TREE Center. She is also a Professor of Health & Social Policy within the UNM College of Population Health and co-PI with Drs. Tassy Parker and Nina Wallerstein of WEAVE NM. WEAVE NM will be participating in the “Engaging Communities and Building Trust: Lessons from the NIH’s Community Engagement Alliance (CEAL) Against COVID-19 Disparities” session at APHA on Saturday, November 5.
