Katherine Watkins, MD, is a senior physician policy researcher at RAND Corporation and board-certified practicing psychiatrist.  She combines a research background in substance abuse and mental health treatment services with a clinical background in treatment for substance use and co-occurring disorders. She also trains substance abuse providers to deliver evidence-based mental health services to individuals with drug and alcohol problems. She is particularly interested in increasing access to treatment for vulnerable populations and in improving care for individuals with co-occurring mental disorders and substance abuse.

Watkins received her M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she obtained her master's degree in health services.

Apart from her works with RAND, she maintains a practice in General Adult Psychiatry in West Los Angeles. At her practice she provides evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide range of psychiatric disorders and emotional problems. She has expertise in psychopharmacology and psychotherapy for the treatment of psychiatric disorders which allows her to provide integrated and comprehensive treatment that is suited to each individual. Furthermore she has specialized experience in women’s mental health and provides evaluation or treatment for psychological issues related to menstruation, pregnancy, infertility, menopause, and psychiatric disorders through pregnancy and postpartum periods.

It is a great honor to host Dr. Watkins at the University of New Mexico’s Health Sciences CTSC.  Please join us for this fascinating lecture.
