The Office of Professionalism contributes to research into understanding what professionalism is, how it can be studied and how it should be taught.
One study, currently in the early stages, is an empirical study of work-related expectations of UNM HSC members in different work settings. This will also elicit implicit values held by members about their work, which will then inform the statement of UNM HSC core values.
The Office of Professionalism is partnering with its peers at medical schools throughout the country who are engaged in similar work. This should lead to a shared wisdom among health care administrators and teachers regarding the practice, assessment and teaching of professionalism.
