July 4-11, 2025 (est)	Deadline for OMSA to Certify Student Graduation with USMLE. OMSA aims to certify within 10 days of graduation so students are able to register for USMLE Step 3 if their residencies permit.
July, 2025 (4-6 weeks post-Convocation)	Diplomas Mailed. The printing company mails diplomas directly to students using a forwarding address in the UNM Banner system (Loboweb) as of the first week in May. Student information must be updated by May 2nd, 2024.
July - August, 2025	OMSA receives digital copies of diplomas for future verification needs.

The 23-month preclinical phase guides each medical student for success on the USMLE Step 1 exam and in the clinical clerkships of Phase II. Foundational science content is organized into organ system blocks, which allows for the integration of normal structure and function with pathophysiology. Intersessions (WISE weeks) occur throughout Phase I and focus on student Wellness, content Integration, Step I preparation, and Education about learning and test-taking strategies. Clinical reasoning and clinical skills (Doctoring) are taught in longitudinal courses that integrate with the relevant foundational science. A practical immersion experience (PIE) is an opportunity to apply foundational science, clinical reasoning, and skills to patient care. Professional identity formation begins within the context of the longitudinal courses and PIE.

- Instructions for uploading Certification of Identification forms were provided in the emails sent after the Class of 2025 Step 1 meeting on 12/14/22.
- Please see the "How to Register for Step 1" PDF for detailed instructions and information regarding the next steps or this form upload shortcut.
- Do not send or bring forms to OMSA. They must be uploaded per instructions.
- An authorized OMSA representative will check for any students that need to be "released" on our end following the winter break on January 3^rd, and then typically every other business day going forward.
- Please remember that during peak registration season, the NBME can take up to fifteen business days (3 weeks) to send a scheduling permit.
- Take a moment to check that your government-issued photo identification will be valid and unexpired for your exam day.
UWORLD STEP 1 PREP
- If your UWorld subscription will expire before your testing date and you would like to request an extension, please complete this UME Subscription Renewal Request.

The 12-month clinical phase prepares students for success on the USMLE Step 2 exam and residency. It is comprised of required clinical clerkships in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Surgery. Each of the Clerkships along with the Doctoring course, supports learning in patient care, teamwork, and professional identity formation.

INITIAL SCHEDULING

AFTER the release of your initial Phase III schedule the following online forms should be used to add courses:

If the elective credit is for Research (901, 902, or 903), please submit the
- Research Add Form
If the elective credit is for a course that is not in our Phase III catalog, please submit a
- Phase III Credit Request OR
- Phase III ICU/Sub-I Credit Request
In addition to a Phase III Credit Request or Phase III ICU-Sub-I Credit request, AFTER YOU HAVE ACCEPTED AN OFFER for an away rotation, please submit a
- VSLO Add Form

COURSE CHANGES (Add/Drops)

If seeking to replace one course with another, a course DROP must be processed before a new course can be added.
Students must initiate a DROP in MDWeb/FACES. Departmental approval may be needed to complete the process.
After submitting the DROP, the Department can ADD a student to a block. Both the student and department may need to approve the ADD before it can be processed by OMSA.
If the added course is not in our Phase III catalog, a Phase III Credit Request or Phase III ICU/Sub-I Credit request must be submitted in lieu MDWeb/FACES.

Evaluations

Grades are due to OMSA two weeks following the end of a rotation.
The two required courses Medicine in New Mexico and Comprehensive Ambulatory Care are submitted through One45.
Research courses should be submitted using a UNM Phase III Evaluation option below.
All other evaluations for UNM Catalog courses led by UNM Faculty are to be submitted directly through the MDWeb/FACES system.
Non-catalog and away evaluations should be submitted via the online form

Regalia

We recommend purchasing or sourcing your Convocation regalia by the end of March, prior to the ceremony. Regalia is available through the UNM Main Campus Bookstore Graduation Site, and additional assistance may be available at the North Campus Bookstore at Domenici Center.

MD/PhD Convocation Regalia Sizing Guide
Be sure to hang your regalia as soon as possible to allow wrinkles to smooth out ahead of the ceremony.
Please be dressed in your regalia 45 minutes before the ceremony starting time.
Doctoral and terminal degree graduates should arrive carrying, but not wearing their hoods. Their hoods will be placed on them by faculty during the hooding ceremony portion of the event. Further instruction will be provided prior to entering the Auditorium for the Ceremony.

UNM Class of 2025 Official Graduation Dates

The official graduation date (i.e date of record) is listed on final transcripts and diplomas, and the date that should be listed on your official paperwork and verification requests.

For UNM this is always the last day of the semester, and typically NOT the same date as the MD/PhD Convocation Ceremony. The dates listed below are based on the University of New Mexico 10-Year Academic Calendar.
