Sybil and her family call Gallup, NM, home and immigrated from the Philippines. She has loved learning how to be a nurse in a smaller town and loves doing family-oriented activities and enjoying the New Mexico landscape with outdoor activities.
"This program has brought a lot more quality educated nurses to our hospitals. We have a lot of nurses who are from here (Gallup) and know how to take care of the people. I was very fortunate the dual degree opened up here in Gallup. It allowed me to stick with my family while learning advanced materials from compassionate professors," Sybil says.
He is a leader. As the Director of the College of Nursing in Gallup, NM, he gets to exercise his leadership skills for more than just students. He is a part of a network of nursing education leadership committed to preparing nursing students to serve New Mexico. Community is of vital importance to him. He immigrated to Gallup, NM, from the Philippines and is dedicated to giving his all to improve health care for the Gallup community and beyond.
"The dual degree program prepares nursing students for expansive careers. I myself owe a lot to the program and was equipped to advance my career however I dreamed of because of it," Lumibao says.
Pacheco received her Master of Science in Nursing in Nursing Education from the UNM College of Nursing. Her mission? To show the next generation of nurses that diversity belongs in health care. She loves being a mother and having a career as an empathetic nursing instructor.
“I’ve told everyone I encounter that being a faculty member for UNM has been an awakening. Supporting students in my hometown, being the representation for young diverse kids across the community that achieving their dreams is possible moves me. I feel I am on an upward trajectory, doing the thing, and I am determined to bring people up with me,” Pacheco says.
