CON-PHE Topping Off Ceremony As we continue the construction of the new building, faculty, staff and students were asked to join and help mark a milestone in the construction process with a “Topping Off” ceremony. This celebration is held when the last beam is hoisted up to its final position. Please enjoy these photos from the event. |
On August 8, 2022, The University of New Mexico Health Sciences broke ground for the new College of Nursing and Public Health Excellence (CON-PHE) Building, which will enable the Colleges of Nursing and Population Health to grow.
The 93,740-gross-square-foot building will be located on Tucker Avenue, just west of the Domenici Center for Health Sciences Education, on what is currently the M-parking lot. The three-story building will include classrooms, offices, community hubs and a research wet lab.
CON-PHE was designed with a goal in mind – to alleviate the pressure on the state’s health care workforce deficit.
The College of Population Health was added to the UNM Health Sciences in 2016 to offer students degrees and research opportunities that can help improve health outcomes. The College is growing quickly without a central office space, and instead, the College is scattered throughout the Health Sciences campus and UNM’s Main Campus.
“The new building is of tremendous importance for the much-needed growth of the College of Population Health,” said Dean Tracie Collins, MD, MPH, MHCDS. “It will allow for more space for students, faculty and staff, which is key to recruitment and retention of talented population and public health practitioners.”
