Intro to IPE—Learning through Action (& FUN)! -- Tuesday, Sept. 27, 1:30-5:30 pm

The Office of Interprofessional Education (IPE) announces its fall event on Tuesday, September 27th from 1:30-5:30 pm for incoming HSC health profession students (representing medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, dental hygiene, population health, and EMS) to learn about the principles of interprofessional education.

HSC students will form into interdisciplinary teams on a scavenger hunt focused on learning about each other’s profession.  Then, a presentation in Domenici Auditorium will give students an overview of the IPEC Core Competencies, IHI’s Triple Aim, and the significance of IPE to prepare for the future direction of our health care system.  Next, a transformational cultural exercise known as, Bafa’ Bafa’, will be conducted in varied HSC classrooms.

Twenty-four facilitators from varied health professions will provide students with instructions for the scavenger hunt and later on, the Bafa’ Bafa’ exercise, which will also be the basis for a comprehensive student debrief/reflection, in small group discussions and large group reflection.
