About the Sponsored Projects Office

We are the birthplace of Grants, Contracts and Other Agreements that benefit the UNM Health Science Center in its Research, Public Service and Educational goals. The role of the Sponsored Projects Office (SPO) / Pre-Award is reviewing, approving, negotiating, and advising HSC Principal Investigators, Faculty & Staff members who seek external funding from federal, state, local, and business entities. SPO also negotiates Material Transfer Agreements (MTA) and Confidential Disclosure Agreements (CDA) and Clinical Trial Agreements (CTA) with pharma. Contact us and let us help you with your funding needs today!

SPO is responsible for the interpretation of University policy, sponsor guidelines, and applicable federal and state laws and regulations related to governmental and non-profit sponsored activities.  SPO serves as the Official Liaison between the HSC Departments and Sponsoring Agencies.

SPO processes No-cost extension requests, early termination requests, amendments, supplements, non-monetary prior approval requests, and all communications with the sponsor on behalf of the UNM Health Sciences Department.

• If arriving from the EAST, take I-40 West to exit 159D (University Blvd.), and turn left onto University Blvd.
• If arriving from the WEST, take I-40 East to exit 159A and follow the frontage road east (past the Big-I), and turn right onto University Blvd.
• If arriving from the NORTH, take I-25 South to exit 227 (Commanche/Candelaria), follow the frontage road and take a left onto Candelaria Rd. Go east on Candelaria for about 1/4-mile, then turn right onto University Blvd.
• If arriving from the SOUTH, take I-25 North to exit 225 (Lomas/Menaul/Candelaria), follow the I-25 frontage road north, and turn left onto the I-40 frontage road. Follow the I-40 frontage road for about 1 mile, and turn right onto University Blvd.
