The ‘Ethics Committee’ has existed for over thirty years. Its members come from across the UNM campus, the Health Sciences Center, the UNM Health System, and the community.
The committee meets monthly to discuss important ethical issues as they arise in the health system. Members provide advice to the Clinical Ethics Consultants.
If you are interested in joining the Ethics Committee please contact contact us here.
The Clinical Ethics Consultations are offered free of charge to clinicians, patients, family members, and administrators. Consultants try to provide relevant information to facilitate difficult decisions, and to work through disagreements or conflicts as they arise in our healthcare settings.
Consultants are usually clinicians with special training in clinical ethics. We collaborate with other consultants in Palliative Medicine, Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Health Law, and Religious/Spiritual Support.
For clinicians, request a clinical ethics consulation through TigerConnect. For Non-clinicians please contact us here.
The Institute of Ethics offers assessment and support for members of the Health Sciences Center who are having difficulties in their roles as clinicians, teachers, colleagues, team-members. This can involve one-on-one coaching.
If you are interested in a professional ethics consulation please contact us here.
The Institute of Ethics offers support for policy development and review. It also offers leaders and managers advice in developing an ethical organization.
