Psychiatry
1960-2001
Dr. Amy Bartholomew was born in Fort Worth, Texas, received her undergraduate degree from Austin College and her M.D. from the University of Texas, San Antonio. She completed residency training in Psychiatry in Pittsburgh in 1988, prior to joining the UNM School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. Beyond her devotion to friends, family, and loved ones, her pride and passion was her work as a psychiatrist. She died after a hard three year battle with leukemia.
I first met Amy in Pittsburgh in 1988 where she was finishing her psychiatry residency and I had joined just for the last year. Unbeknownst to each other, we both later moved to New Mexico and our paths crossed again at the UNM Psychiatric Center in 1993 when I joined the faculty which she had been on for some time. Amy was a compassionate and excellent doctor and I was so impressed that she returned to psychiatric practice after her first bout with cancer, while raising her then young children. She is missed.
