Family and Community Medicine
Dr. George Eisenberg served as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at UNM with a joint appointment in Family and Community Medicine for over a decade. He was one of the early faculty members in the Pediatrics Department. He came to UNM after a successful career in the Chicago area. He received his MD degree from Rush Medical College, performed a pediatric residency at Children’s Memorial Hospital, and then was in private pediatric practice in Chicago for over three decades. He retired from private practice and moved to Albuquerque in 1968. He served as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at UNM with a joint appointment in Family and Community Medicine for over a decade.
George practiced and taught pediatric residents and medical students in the Newborn Nursery. He also served as a liaison/consultant from Pediatrics to Family and Community Medicine, playing a key role in their pediatric curriculum and serving as the pediatrician for the children of many pediatric and family medicine faculty and residents. His performance in these capacities has been lauded highly by Alice Cushing, Scott Obenshain, Warren Heffron and others.
George and his wife were strong supporters of the Child Life Program in Pediatrics. In addition, he donated a collection of over 100 early and historic infant feeding vessels/containers to the School of Medicine that were on display at the UNM Medical Center Library in the late 1970s.
