Andrew Hsi, MD, MPH was a longtime University of New Mexico pediatrician, clinician-educator, and Professor of Pediatrics and Family and Community Medicine who dedicated more than four decades to advancing care for children and families in New Mexico. He was raised in Clovis New Mexico, graduated from Stanford University and earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, and completed Residency at University of New Mexico. He joined the UNM faculty in 1987 and practiced for almost 40 years at UNM, earning a reputation for compassionate, patient-centered care. Dr. Hsi led innovative, interdisciplinary programs, including MILAGRO, FOCUS, and ADOBE, that developed comprehensive “wraparound” models supporting infants, youth, and families affected by substance use, incarceration, and other complex social needs. He was an institutional leader, leaving his mark in a variety of areas including Co-Chair of Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act work group of NM CYFD, Chair of the John Paul Taylor Task Force-NM Senate Joint Memorial 5, Medical Director of FOCUS (formerly Los Pasos), Founder and Director of the Institute for Resilience, Health, and Justice, General Pediatrics Division Chief, and medical director of Newborn Nursery and Mother and Baby Unit.
