Emergency Medicine
Dr. George Franklin Key graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1971 and joined UNM in about 1975. He was one of the founding faculty members in 1991 of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr Key was an outstanding clinician and also a dedicated and expert teacher. He was involved in the 'new' curriculum planning that started in 1993 and always an active participant in education committees as well as hands-on teaching. He was an expert on snakes and toxic plants and known for his keen clinical judgment. He died of a heart attack after jogging. The George F. Key, M.D., Endowed Professorship was established in his honor in 1999. The Professorship is intended for a faculty professor in emergency medicine.
