Dr. Daniel Tunnie Martin, the son of missionary parents, was born in Nagpur, Madhya, India, He received a BA degree in Biology and Music from Anderson College, and an MD and residency training in General Surgery and Surgical Research both at Ohio State University. After serving as the Administrator of the Surgical Resident Training Program at The Ohio State University Hospitals, Dr. Martin began private practice in Fremont, Ohio, and was the Chief of Surgery at Fremont Memorial Hospital and Clinical Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Ohio. In addition to his work as a general surgeon, Dr. Martin traveled across the U.S., South America and Europe training surgeons in the newly introduced techniques of laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Martin spent the later portion of his career as Assistant Professor of Surgery, Division of Surgical Endoscopy and Laparoscopy, at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He published numerous professional journals and articles, and was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Medical Association. His heart was in teaching others.
