Education and Training

Delivering comprehensive health care is a team effort.

The UNM School of Medicine offers outstanding MD and health profession programs. Student anesthesiologist and physician assistants, physical therapists, emergency medical technicians, laboratory and radiological technologists, dental hygienists and occupational therapists learn and train alongside medical students to deliver increased access to health care, improved outcomes and greater patient satisfaction with excellent career stability, compensation and flexibility.

In 2025, the University of New Mexico was awarded high ratings/rankings by the US News and World Report in Tier 3 for Best Medical Schools: Research, and in Tier 1 for Best Medical Schools: Primary Care. Additional US News and World Report medical school rankings include Occupational Therapy #53 (tied), Physical Therapy #65 (tied), Physician Assistant #75 (tied), Most Graduates Practicing in Health Professional Shortage Areas - #23, Most Graduate Practicing in Primary Care - #14 and Most Graduates Practicing in Rural Areas - #60.
