The Department of Cell Biology and Physiology is an academic unit of The University of New Mexico School of Medicine that focuses on the study of biological structures, fundamental cellular and physiological processes and their relationship to human disease.

Our research mission is to conduct outstanding investigations in the fields of molecular and cell biology, cellular biochemistry and biophysics and physiology, as evidenced by high-quality, peer-reviewed publications, individual and department recognition and a strong record of external financial
support.
Ultimately, we aspire to excel in research activities that focus on the causes and potential treatments of human illnesses that affect New Mexicans.
