Recruitment Season 2024-25

Application Submission

We accept applications through ERAS. Applicants can register in MyERAS and can start submitting applications on September 4^th. This season ERAS will open to programs on September 25th.

We seek diversity and strive for equity in our residents and the process. UNM and the Department of Emergency Medicine do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, veteran status, or disability.

Supplemental ERAS Applications

For the 2025 ERAS cycle, our program will be collecting and reviewing data from applicants' supplemental ERAS applications. Completion of the standard MyERAS application is a requirement; completion of the supplemental ERAS application is optional.

In its second year of use, the supplemental ERAS application is designed to help applicants share more information about themselves and assist our program in finding applicants that fit our program's setting and mission. There is no cost to applicants and participation is optional.

Emergency Medicine as a specialty has opted to use program signals only this year, but some other specialties also use the other available options of geographic preference and meaningful experiences.

Requirements:

Must be a graduate of a California Medical Board-approved medical school to be eligible for licensure in New Mexico
To be reviewed applications must be complete with 1) two LORs, one of which must be an academic SLOE (i.e. from a rotation with a residency), 2) an MSPE, 3) Step 1 USMLE score, 4) a personal statement
To be ranked after interview, application must include a Step 2 CK score

Interview Invitations

As a hybrid Academic/County program (but firmly on the county side), we participate in the Unified Program Release date.

We will offer interviews Wednesday, October 16^th 10:00am MST. Scheduling will be available Thursday October 17^th 10:00am MST. This year ERAS does not open to programs until 9/25/24 and rolling invites are standard for our program, so even competitive applicants may not get offers on Oct 16^th.

We will notify you in advance via email from ERAS (Thalamus) of interview offers and this year we are using ERAS for scheduling and interview management. The ERAS Residency Timeline is available to view here.

November: 1, 4, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22
December: 5, 6, 9, 12, 13, 16

We require 2 business days' notice for any interview cancellations.

Recruitment Season Events

We attend and sponsor several fairs and outreach events for the season. We also have an ambassador program with residents and faculty who are happy to answer questions or provide information on specific areas of interest such as EMS, Critical Care, Wilderness Medicine, or Medical Education if you contact us here. We do track outreach and inquiries to help gauge interest but encourage applicants to limit to one connection. We will prioritize ambassador requests for those who haven't had a chance to connect with someone from the program previously.

Hosted by the UNM School of Medicine the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and Graduate Medical Education invites you to attend one of the UNM Graduate Medical Education Diversity Nights. These events are for all medical students and residents who are participating in the 2024-25 MATCH, are underrepresented in medicine or anyone who would like to learn more about the diverse
people and programs of The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and our residency and fellowship programs.

Post-interview Open Houses (2^nd looks)

Although we would love to show folks our program and city in-person during interviews, we strive to promote equity in all aspects of our process and will follow these recommendations (see below). We will hold post-interview open houses for "second looks" in person on the following dates. The Wednesday dates also have the option for attending resident conference from 10a-3p. The Coalition for Physician Accountability came together to promote equity among applicants and programs. Their recommendations for the 2024-25 Interview Season are:

All emergency medicine residency interviews should be conducted virtually.
In-person program-sponsored events should not occur during interview season.
"Second looks" are acceptable, after Rank List is finalized
Applicants may independently choose to visit a city as part of their decision-making process during the interview season, but they should not request to participate in, nor should they be offered in-person program-sponsored events.

All times are in Mountain Standard Time. Applicants are invited to participate in heritage month activities offered through the EM department, medical school, and/or Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Health Sciences Center, UNM. Our virtual Grand Rounds will also be open to applicants with registration - links to be posted here as available.
