What is the EMS for Children (EMSC) – Child Ready Initiative?

The New Mexico EMSC Child Ready Initiative is a multi-faceted program that is reaching out to rural and tribal communities to help them become more aware of their abilities to treat the emergently ill or injured child.

EMS for Children - Child Ready programs includes an emphasis on quality of care, continuity of care, family-centered care, cultural diversity, and injury prevention.

Ensure that each child receive the right care, at the right time, and in the right place.

Objectives

The main objectives of the initiative are:

• Assist health care providers in communities, hospitals and EMS services improve their pediatric skills and increase knowledge on treating the emergently ill or injured child. Helping providers become child advocates for their own communities for the health and safety of their children.
• Engage tribal and rural communities to expand the Child Ready Telehealth Program throughout New Mexico.
• Create a telehealth culture of daily, ongoing, communication in real time that includes regularly scheduled weekly communications, education and consultations.
• Improve access to human and social services to rural and tribal children living in poverty. This includes utilizing Child Ready behavioral health and child abuse consultation resources to rural and tribal children.
