I chose family medicine because it offers the flexibility to explore a broad range of specialties throughout my career. I’m particularly passionate about pediatrics, reproductive healthcare, emergency medicine, and gender-affirming care, and family medicine will allow me to pivot across these areas without being confined to just one. My advocacy work has been a key motivator in my pursuit of medicine, encompassing grassroots initiatives, legislative efforts, and policy work through organized medicine. I was drawn to UNM’s strong emphasis on advocacy, DEI, and the sociocultural dimensions of healthcare—values that resonate deeply with my personal mission. I am especially dedicated to improving healthcare equity for transgender people, and I am eager to learn in an environment where DEI is prioritized in both education and patient care.
