UNM's Division of Hospital Medicine leads the field of inpatient medicine by providing the highest quality of care to hospitalized patients. We work to achieve excellence in inpatient education for students, residents, colleagues, patients and all members of our health care team.
Our teams of research groups are dedicated to improving inpatient care, creating best practices and participating in quality review. We seek solutions for complex issues, such as emergency department overcrowding, patient safety and medication reconciliation.
We conduct a cohesive and sustainable practice model to support our mission: To innovate in the areas of quality improvement, hospital systems, patient safety, palliative care and resident education to ultimately improve the care of all hospitalized patients.
As part of this mission, we offer an Advanced Practice Provider Hospital Medicine Fellowship (APP). This is open to nurse practitioners and physician assistants during their first year of practice. APP fellows emerge as strong leaders in the fast-paced and challenging areas of hospital medicine.
