Prepare for Your Neurology Career

Our four-year program emphasizes holistic education with comprehensive rotations, leadership opportunities and professional development. The Adult Neurology program offers five residency positions per year. Through our categorical program, you will complete your medical internship in the UNM Department of Internal Medicine.

The Child Neurology program is a five-year residency including practical experience from day one. We offer one residency position per year. Your experience will be shaped by your interests. Leadership development and teaching opportunities are key components of the residency. Residents complete our program fully prepared for either fellowship or practice.

The Neurology Pre-Residency Clinical Training Program is a post-doctoral, pre-residency opportunity for physicians to gain hands-on clinical experience and procedural training. The program is a year-long and offers research opportunities and full benefits. We accept applications beginning on November 1.

The Neurocritical Care Fellowship at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque is recognized by both Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and United Council on Neurological Subspecialties (UCNS), offering two spots annually. Candidates may choose a two-year track if they come from backgrounds in Neurology, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, or Anesthesiology, or a one-year track for those who have completed a recognized critical care fellowship or neurosurgery residency. The Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship trains fellows in the interpretation of central nervous system neurophysiology. Upon completion of the fellowship, you will be able to treat and diagnose epilepsy. Fellows receive daily instruction under direct supervision. Each year we offer two one-year fellowship positions in vascular neurology. Fellows will have opportunities to see and treat a large variety of disease entities, including Moya-Moya disease, familial cerebral cavernous malformations and cerebral venous sinus thrombosis.
