The UNM Ophthalmology Residency Program is a four-year integrated training program fully accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education. It accepts three residents annually through SFMatch (https://www.sfmatch.org/).
We accept applications for medical student away rotations. Applicants should apply through VSLO and will be contacted regarding approval once applications are reviewed. Rotations occur July through October of each year.
The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is invested in educating and training future eye physicians and surgeons.
The Department participates actively in didactic teaching of medical students in their first and second year of medical school. Third-year medical students have the opportunity to do a clinical selective rotation in Ophthalmology. Fourth-year students may do a one-month elective in Ophthalmology. Additionally, we participate in the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) process and take external students for elective rotations interested in Ophthalmology. Learn More.
