From basic eye care to the most complicated eye diseases, our faculty offer comprehensive eye care. We include all major ophthalmic specialties and provide compassionate, state of the art care at two outpatient eye clinics affiliated with UNM Hospital.
Eye surgery is performed at the three major UNMH operating rooms (OSIS Outpatient, UNMH Hospital Main OR, and BBRP Pediatric OR).
Robert Avery, M.D. Ph.D. Clinical Interests:
Comprehensive ophthalmology with an emphasis on cataract surgery, glaucoma and ocular trauma.

Comprehensive (general) ophthalmology.
Alexander Davis, M.D., Ph.D. Clinical Interests:
Cornea and external disease, comprehensive ophthalmology, ocular trauma with anterior segment reconstruction, secondary lens placement and complex cataract surgery.

Glaucoma, cataract surgery, comprehensive ophthalmology, eye trauma and complex cataract surgery.
Kevin Sitko, M.D.Clinical Interests:
Diseases affecting the neurologic pathways of vision and control of eye movements, including ischemic optic neuropathy, papilledema, optic neuritis, stroke, hereditary optic neuropathy, double vision, cranial neuropathies affecting eye movements, myasthenia gravis, neurodegenerative conditions with effects on vision and pupillary abnormalities. Other clinical interests are: the electrophysiologic testing of the eye in the diagnosis of ocular pathology, including full-field electroretinogram (ERG), multifocal ERG, electro-oculogram (EOG), pattern ERG and visual evoked potentials (VEP). Also, inflammatory conditions of the eye, called uveitis and cataract surgeries.
Amar Joshi, M.D.Clinical Interests:
Comprehensive evaluation and management of diseases of the eyelids and ocular adnexa, orbit and lacrimal system. Functional, reconstructive and cosmetic eyelid surgery including dermatochalasis and ptosis repair, ectropion/entropion repair and excision/reconstruction of skin cancers around the eye. Diseases of the orbit including orbital fracture repair, orbital tumor management and medical and surgical treatment of thyroid-associated orbitopathy. Repair of tear-drainage problems including nasolacrimal duct obstruction.
Randi M. Thompson, O.D.Clinical Interests:
Primary and acute eye care, ocular disease and specialty contact lenses for eyes with damaged or irregular corneas and ocular surface issues of all kinds.
