The Bone Marrow Pathology Group first met in 2011 as an informal group of hematopathologists sharing an interest in studying blood and bone marrow pathology. The founding members designed multi-institutional projects to address identified problem areas in diagnostics. By pooling patient cases and engaging trainee participation they have assessed reproducibility of morphologic criteria, developed evidence-based strategies for case work-up, standardized hematopathology practice, provided guidance for trainees and successfully published their results. As of 2024, the group has produced 25 peer-reviewed publications and multiple abstracts, with trainees included as co-authors on nearly every project. Currently five projects are underway. The Bone Marrow Pathology Group meets annually in person and collaborates throughout the year.
