The Division of Adolescent Medicine has several clinics for children and teenagers across New Mexico. These clinics are making a difference not just in our local communities but also rural locations where receiving quality health care is a challenge for some families. Below are the Division of Adolescent Medicine's main clinics and some of the organizations we partner with to provide excellent quality health care in the state of New Mexico.
The UNM Medical Group School-Based Health Center (SBHC) Program provides safe and easily accessible locations on six school campuses in Albuquerque. SBHCs are operated independently but in collaboration with each school site. All students attending those schools can receive comprehensive, integrated primary and behavioral health care services, delivered in a culturally sensitive manner regardless of their ability to pay. UNM SBHCs focus on preventive health care including well-child visits, reproductive health, and immunizations, educating students on healthy lifestyle choices, and addressing smoking, substance use, anxiety and depression. The UNM SBHC program also seeks to enhance healthy youth development and reduce barriers to learning. SBHC staff include medical doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, independently licensed behavioral health therapists, child psychiatrists, child psychologists, medical assistants, medical case managers and clinic coordinators.
The UNM Healthy & Fit Children’s Clinic is dedicated to preventing type 2 diabetes for New Mexico children ages two to 17 years old. The clinic uses a multidisciplinary approach considering the medical, nutritional, behavioral characteristics, and physical activity of each child. The Division of Adolescent Medicine provides best practice healthcare services for the clinic’s adolescent patient population.
The Division of Adolescent Medicine provides best practice prevention and urgent care healthcare services for day and residential students enrolled in Albuquerque Job Corps Centers. We participate in the interdisciplinary Albuquerque Job Corps Center Wellness team to develop collaborative, individualized healthcare treatment plans to promote Job Corps student wellness and success.
