Why UNM is My Choice for Residency: I am, what you may call, a UNM-lifer. You’ll see many of us around. I grew up in Albuquerque, went to undergrad at UNM, medical school at UNM, and here I am, a pediatric resident at UNM! There’s a reason I stuck around - our program is so special. We see everything, being the only Children’s Hospital in the region and the only level 1 trauma center. You get everything from bread-and-butter pediatrics to obscure zebras. Having been a medical student here, then a sub-intern, and now a resident, I can say with confidence our program is special because of the people; we are a tight-knit group of residents and faculty who genuinely enjoy working with each other.
Favorite Things About UNM: The people. Hands down. When I’m having a rough day, I can turn to any of my co-residents or attendings, and after they listen to my rant, the first words out of their mouths are always “how are YOU doing?” It means a lot knowing I have such a strong support system behind me.
Favorite Things About NM: The mountains. The balloons. The green chile. The sunsets. There is a little bit of something for everyone here.
