Why UNM is My Choice for Residency: I chose UNM because I wanted to be at a Children’s Hospital with a big pediatric patient population where there is a good relationship among faculty, staff, and residents. At UNM, I felt that the faculty encourage questions and growth in a supportive atmosphere. I was drawn to New Mexico because it has a culturally diverse population with opportunities to advocate for patients. I was also looking forward to being back in the desert sunshine and closer to home (I'm an aunt!).
Favorite Things About UNM: One of the best parts has been my amazing co-workers! Whether we are sharing advice with each other about different services/finding optometrist/where to find the best tacos, discussing a challenging situation, going mountain biking/hiking, or celebrating birthdays potluck style, I am so grateful for my talented and kind coworkers (and their partners). Also, with the wide catchment area and fewer fellowships, residents here care directly for patients with a variety of pathologies, which has been a really helpful part of my training.
Favorite Things About NM: Mountain biking in the Sandia foothills, running, going to the farmer’s markets, watching hot air balloons, enjoying 310 days of sunshine, trying new restaurants, and exploring New Mexico.
