Why UNM is My Choice for Residency: I ranked UNM #1 because I had an amazing away rotation experience here. Everyone I worked with was kind and very helpful to me during my first-ever inpatient peds rotation. (My medical school was primarily outpatient.) I felt more confident in my skills when I left my Sub-I, which was a big reason why I ranked UNM highly. I knew I wanted to be somewhere in the West where I could still do all the things I love, like skiing and mountain biking.
Favorite Things About UNM: The diversity of our patients and special situations we get to witness as residents. I hope to practice in a smaller town one day so I feel like I’m really learning how to navigate problems that patients may face coming from smaller towns, as UNM is a catch-all for the entire state.
Favorite Things About NM: The Sandias! The biking trails in Placitas! The food! New Mexico has been so fun and there is so much to explore here. I’m excited to go skiing at Taos this winter and do cross country skiing at Valles Caldera.
