At the University of New Mexico Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, we provide advanced training in psychiatry across multiple subspecialties. Our five fellowships provide meaningful education and experiences in subspecialties alongside dedicated and specialized faculty.

With the older population continuing to rapidly increase, geriatric psychiatry is becoming an even more important and sought-after specialty. During your year with us, you’ll have solid core training in geriatric psychiatry and will be able to pursue your own interests in this growing field.
The Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center is the first and only fellowship of its kind available to qualified psychiatric residents in the state. During your time with us, you’ll learn how to serve as an expert psychiatric consultant in medical and surgical inpatient and outpatient settings.
Our newest fellowship focuses on evidenced based treatment to improve patient and family function, with the goal of preventing mental health disorders in future generations. During this year, you will work with an interdisciplinary faculty and will be able to focus on what interests you most in this developing area of specialty.
