On behalf of our faculty and staff, welcome to the School of Medicine Office of Education. The Office of Education (OOE) was created in the School of Medicine in 2012. The office brings together and represents the many diverse educational programs in the School of Medicine that cover the continuum of education from beginning learners in a discipline all the way through practicing providers, and provides a central administrative structure for leadership, advocacy, and support for educational programs.
The Mission, Vision, and Values statements for the Office of Education were updated in 2019 to reflect growth and changes in our programs, as well as to re-emphasize our goals and values. Consistent with our commitment to inclusiveness and teamwork, these statements were created by an Office of Education working group consisting of both faculty and staff, who represented and sought input from the entire Office of Education team. The Mission, Vision, and Values statements are as follows:

The Office of Education will lead the University of New Mexico’s School of Medicine as an innovative institution with high expectations where people want to work and study, and it will promote practicing medicine and health care in all communities of New Mexico.

The Office of Education Central Administration team at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the UME department. We support both the academic and professional success of our students, faculty, and staff by managing essential functions that allow the department to focus on its mission: delivering high-quality medical education.
Our team provides administrative support to OOE leadership, assisting with decision-making processes, strategic planning, and implementation of key initiatives. This helps the OOE department stay aligned with the broader goals of the UNM School of Medicine.
The OOE Central Administration team is responsible for HR functions, including hiring, onboarding, and maintaining compliance with institutional policies. We work closely with faculty and staff to ensure a positive and productive work environment.
We manage the financial planning, budgeting, and allocation of resources, ensuring that OOE operates efficiently and effectively while staying within financial guidelines.
Our team handles payroll operations for the entire OOE department, ensuring timely and accurate compensation for faculty, staff, and standardized patients.
