We're looking for New Mexico high school seniors interested in an educational path that will lead to a doctor of medicine (MD) degree from the UNM School of Medicine.
505.925.4500Timeline:
Students may begin their application to the BA/MD program on August 1 of their senior year of high school. Complete applications must be submitted by the first Thursday in November, at 5:00pm MST. No priority is given to students who submit their applications early. However, we strongly recommend submitting your application before the deadline to avoid last-minute technical difficulties.
Applications and Fees:
All students who wish to apply to the Combined BA/MD Degree Program must fill out two separate applications; UNM's application for admission (must apply to main campus) AND the BA/MD application.
Applications submitted to UNM Admissions before October 15 will not be charged an application fee. Simply choose the “mail in payment” option when you complete your UNM application. After October 15, UNM charges a $25 application fee.
The BA/MD application does not have an associated fee.
Checklist:
IMPORTANT: BA/MD applicants must complete two separate applications.
Applicants must apply for fall admission to the University of New Mexico-Main Campus and apply for the BA/MD Program.
Students already enrolled in UNM dual credit courses must also complete both applications.
Completed applications for both undergraduate admissions and admission to the BA/MD Program and all required materials must be received by the BA/MD application deadline.
Please NOTE: We strongly encourage you to submit your application before the deadline of 5pm (MST) due to technical issues that may arise with the high volume of traffic to our website at that time. Applications submitted after 5:00pm (MST) will not be accepted.
The BA/MD Admissions Committee interviews all applicants who submitted a complete application and achieved the minimum required ACT or SAT scores prior to the BA/MD application deadline. 28 Students are accepted into each cohort of The Combined BA/MD Degree Program.
Interviews take place virtually beginning in mid-November and concluding in February. The committee will make its final cohort decision by April 1. Students offered a spot in the cohort must accept their position in the program by May 1. Any student who has not accepted their position by May 1 will have their offer of admission to the BA/MD Program revoked. This will not affect their offer of admission to the university.
ACT and/or SAT tests taken prior to the first Thursday of November deadline will be considered in the BA/MD application.
If you have taken the ACT and/or SAT prior to the application deadline and have not received your scores by the first Thursday of November, please note the test date on your application and list PENDING where you would normally enter your scores.
Once you have received your scores, please upload them to your application.
The BA/MD application must be submitted by the first Thursday of November at 5:00pm (MST). Applications will not be accepted after that time.
All application materials must be submitted electronically by the November deadline. If you have listed your recommenders and submitted your application by the deadline, but the recommendations have not been submitted, please contact our office for further instructions.
Official transcripts sent electronically must be received by the application deadline. If they are mailed physically, transcripts must be postmarked by the application deadline. If you have sent your transcripts using the electronic service Parchment and do not see confirmation of receipt within 24 hours, please contact our office for assistance.
All new incoming freshmen must complete the FAFSA application by May 1 after their acceptance into the program to receive funding.
Note: Completing a FAFSA application early may benefit students. Contact the UNM scholarship office for further details.
