This guide will help you set up or recover access to your HSC NetID, which you will use for your HSC/Salud email, HSC Microsoft 365 services, the Tech Start Hub on SharePoint, and other systems required during onboarding.
Your HSC NetID is different from your main campus UNM NetID. When following these steps, sign in with your HSC/Salud email address, which usually ends in @salud.unm.edu.
If your HSC NetID is already working and you can successfully log in at hscid.health.unm.edu with your HSC/Salud email address, you can skip ahead to Step 6: Access the Tech Start Hub.
Who should use this guide? Incoming medical students who need help setting up or regaining access to their HSC NetID account.
Before logging in, open a private or incognito browser window. This helps prevent problems caused by saved logins, cached sessions, or another Microsoft account that may already be signed in.
In the private browser window you opened in Step 1, copy the address below and paste it into that private window’s address bar:
This is where you will log in with your HSC credentials and begin setting up your account.
If the page still does not load after trying these steps, skip ahead to the Need Help? section for support options.
At the login screen, enter the HSC/Salud email address listed in your Welcome Packet. It should look like this:
To protect your account, HSC requires Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). We recommend using the Microsoft Authenticator app. It is easy to use day-to-day and works over Wi-Fi, which is especially helpful in buildings with limited cell service. You can add a backup method, such as text messaging, later.
If you have already set up MFA for your HSC account, complete the sign-in prompt and continue to Step 5: Change Your Password, if Prompted.
Still stuck? Go to the Need Help? section to contact the AMS support team.
After you sign in and complete any MFA prompts, follow any on-screen instructions to change your password or update your account information.
If no password-change prompt appears, you are ready to move on to the Tech Start Hub.
After your HSC NetID and MFA are set up, your next step is to visit the Tech Start Hub for UNM Medical Students. Although the Hub is maintained for MD student onboarding, PA students who use shared MD Program systems may also be directed to use it.
The Tech Start Hub provides the remaining technology setup instructions you will need before orientation, including Outlook email setup, BYOD/Intune enrollment, required applications, and other student technology tasks.
You can only access the Tech Start Hub when you are signed in with your HSC/Salud email address and HSC password.
If you see a message asking you to request access, you are probably signed in with a different Microsoft account, such as your UNM NetID. To fix this, copy the Tech Start Hub link, open it in a private browser window, and sign in with your HSC/Salud email address.
Next step: Once you reach the Tech Start Hub, follow the setup instructions listed there. You can explore the tools and resources, or contact AMS if you need help.
If you run into problems with passwords, MFA, BYOD/Intune, HSC secure Wi-Fi, or other onboarding technology tasks, AMS can help you determine the next step.
AMS is located in Room 140, First Floor, Health Sciences Library & Informatics Center (HSLIC). The first floor is only accessible from the south entrance near the loading area.
Walk-ins are welcome when staff are available. Whenever possible, please contact us before visiting so we can schedule your visit and make sure the right person is available to assist you.
In-person availability: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM.
We are here to help make your start as smooth as possible. Welcome to the MD Program.
