Office of Program Evaluation, Education and Research (PEAR)
The Program Evaluation, Education and Research (PEAR) unit is the internal evaluation team for the MD program. PEAR focuses on curriculum evaluation for all three phases of the four-year medical school curriculum, measuring students’ perceptions of courses and related educational experiences. PEAR's scope of work includes 1) administering and reporting on curriculum evaluations; 2) collecting, managing, and analyzing data (e.g., student demographic variables, academic progress through medical school, performance on licensing exams) for quality improvement purposes as well as institutionally-approved research projects; 3) presenting key evaluation findings to the Curriculum Committee and other committees; 4) researching and compiling data on UNM SOM graduates (MD and/or residency), who practice medicine in New Mexico, for the annual Location Report; 5) consulting and/or providing evaluation services for student and/or faculty research projects. “Evaluation to improve” is a guiding principle that informs PEAR's evaluation and research activities.
