Carla Muth, RN, BSN

Carla Muth had a long and varied career in New Mexico healthcare, starting as a registered nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Santa Fe. She later helped found the Visiting Nurse Service in Santa Fe, created the first hospice service in New Mexico and developed hospital-based and independent home health agencies across the state. She also collaborated with others to secure passage of a law allowing the use of county indigent funds for home healthcare clinics.
Carla was the first nurse appointed to a cabinet secretary position in the state and served as deputy secretary and secretary of the New Mexico Department of Health under Gov. Gary Carruthers. In 2013, she received the Legends in Nursing Award from the New Mexico Center for Nursing Excellence.
