My life as a Lobo has resulted in many rewarding educational and professional experiences over the span of a 15-year Academic Advising career with UNM. In 2022, I started my position as an Academic Advisement Mgr. with The College of Nursing. Within this space, I have shared my admiration for corresponding academic success with effective advisement practices along the sides of faculty members, administrators, and staff.
Working at The College of Nursing has afforded me the opportunity to be indelibly connected with the transformative stages of health care by structuring a conducive atmosphere for aspiring nursing scholars.
Admissions and Recruitment is the primary point of contact for all prospective applicants and provides advisement on the admissions process and various degree paths. This office is responsible for responding to inquiries, processing applications, and for representing the College at numerous recruitment and community events in Albuquerque, across the state, and nationally.
Academic Advising is responsible for overseeing academic advising for all current students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including, but not limited to, course planning, degree requirements, student progression, probation and suspension, academic appeals processes, leaves of absence, graduation and degree verifications, and other administrative processes related to students.
The Office of Academic Success provides supplemental academic support and programming to students. They offer 1:1 consultation to students to help with test-taking strategies, improve study skills, manage test anxiety, improve time management, and more. They also administer the HESI and Dosage exams for all levels. Their staff will guide you through the duration of your program and contribute to your student success.
The Clinical Placement Team oversees the clinical onboarding of students and faculty at the undergraduate and graduate level, to ensure they meet any requirements set forth by our clinical partners. They also oversee preceptor and clinical partner recruitment, as well as ensure students are in compliance with their professional documentation requirements (immunizations, screenings, training, etc.) over the entirety of the program.
Financial Aid is responsible for advising prospective applicants and current students on all forms of financial aid, as well as administering the awarding of all financial aid including state and federal programs, scholarships, grants, loan programs, work-study, and other forms of aid for all College of Nursing students across all degree programs.
Following national standards, the Simulation Team provides comprehensive support to both undergraduate and graduate simulations with a wide range of settings, props, and manikins from high-fidelity to low-fidelity to different age, genders, and ethnicities. Providing the most realistic scenario possible.
Administrative Services provide centralized support including: resource planning, management of projects, meeting scheduling/correspondence, minute taking, travel arrangements, textbook/desk copy orders, recordkeeping, as well as other administrative related activities that arise.
The Instructional Media Support staff assists faculty in the design of their online courses. This includes transfer of content for each semester, video, images, editing content, close captioning, as well as troubleshooting for both faculty and students.
The Office of Research & Scholarship includes services and support for publications and contracts and grants. This includes editorial services, financing and budgeting, letters of support, grant submissions/applications, as well as research mentoring and future funding opportunity planning.
Alumni Relations plays a key role in the College’s mission by fostering engagement with our alums often through special events, volunteer opportunities, lectures, job openings, alumni achievements, and more.
Communications highlights all the great work happening at the College of Nursing, writing feature stories on students, faculty achievements, alumni, and more. They also provide editorial services to faculty and utilize social media to build and celebrate the contributions of the College to the community.
The Development Office is the fundraising arm of the College. Through the UNM Foundation and in concert with the CON, they obtain private donations and grant funding to support student scholarships, opportunities for faculty development, as well as endowed chair and professorship opportunities, and much more.
College of Nursing events are coordinated through the Office of Advancement and supported by staff across the College as a unified effort aimed at honoring our students, and providing learning and professional development opportunities. This includes budgeting, planning, and coordinating day of event execution. Events include, but are not limited to the Nursing Pledge Ceremony, Graduation/Convocation, and College Scholarship and Research Speaker Series.
The College of Nursing Facilities department oversees all telecommunication services, utilities, building maintenance and repairs, access control, and signage in addition to wet-lab space and equipment management and inventory control.
The Finance Team provides centralized fiscal services for the entirety of the College. They are responsible for all purchasing, travel, payroll, timekeeping, and fiscal reporting for both unrestricted and restricted funding. Finance builds and monitors the College budget and conducts financial analyses and projections for programs, as well as contracts and grants, including clinical contract management.
Human Resources provides consulting on human resources principles and industry standards. This includes recruitment and staffing of all faculty, staff and students, managing the hiring process for the entirety of the employee life cycle, onboarding, employee relations, consultation on policies and procedures, and promoting a positive work environment that supports our diverse staff, leaders, and administrators as well as fosters an equitable and inclusive environment of collegiality.
The College of Nursing IT Department services all technology needs for the College, including Instructional Media Support. They provide classroom technology and end-user support for all faculty, staff and students. They focus on the effective and efficient use of IT equipment with the aim of ease of use for all users.
Marketing works to strategically design, develop and implement digital & printed materials, television and radio advertisements, website content, social media, and ads to aid in the promotion of the College of Nursing, academic programs, employee recruitment, and much more.
The Office of Strategic Support is responsible for all official student data and work in collaboration with faculty to support accreditation processes. Additionally, they are responsible for the administration of Faculty Success, TAMS, and Evaluation Kit in addition to course/room scheduling, policy and student handbook management, as well as process improvement via tools such as SmartSheet.
