The University of New Mexico School of Medicine welcomes visiting medical students to participate in final year elective clerkships. Clerkships for visiting students are coordinated by the Office of Medical Student Affairs. The University of New Mexico School of Medicine requires all visiting students to meet the same standards expected of our own students. Students from International Medical Schools may participate in our program. Regardless of citizenship, students are considered an International Student if their training, including the basic sciences, occurred at a school outside of the United States. This includes students from "Off Shore" and Caribbean Schools.
Please review the Visiting Student Course Catalog for information on courses and application requirements.
NOTICE: The UNM School of Medicine has discontinued use of paper application forms for International visiting applicants. ALL International applicants must now submit their applications through the AAMC web-based VSLO (Visiting Student Learning Opportunities) application system. If you are unsure whether or not your home institution participates in VSLO, please contact your home student affairs office. Please keep in mind, per our Visiting MD Student Guidelines (outlined in the catalog above), visiting students may NOT seek clerkship “pre-approval” from UNM Faculty or Hospital Staff.
