The University of New Mexico School of Medicine welcomes visiting medical students to participate in fourth-year elective clerkships. Clerkships for visiting students are coordinated by the Office of Medical Student Affairs. The University of New Mexico School of Medicine requires all visiting students to meet the same standards expected of our own students. Students from international medical schools may participate in our program. Regardless of citizenship, students are considered an international student if their training, including the basic sciences, occurred at a school outside of the United States. This includes students from "Off-Shore" and Caribbean Schools.
Please review the Visiting Student Course Catalog for information on courses and application requirements.
***PLEASE NOTE – Following guidance from the Coalition for Physician Accountability (a cross-organizational group of national medical education organizations), UNM School of Medicine has adopted the following guidelines for away rotations during the 2020-21 academic year:

Incoming visiting students will be required to complete an exception form, signed by their home institution attesting that the student the home institution does not have a residency program in their chosen specialty. The form will need to be uploaded to VSAS/VSLO as part of the required application paperwork.

- Visiting students entering the state from another state or country, returning from the Four Corners area, or from any other area specified by university or state guidelines, may be required to self-quarantine for up to two weeks, as determined by university and state mandates as well as occupational health review.
