The University of New Mexico School of Medicine welcomes visiting medical students to participate in final year elective clerkships. Clerkships for visiting students are coordinated by the Office of Medical Student Affairs. The University of New Mexico School of Medicine requires all visiting students to meet the same standards expected of our own students. Students from International Medical Schools may participate in our program. Regardless of citizenship, students are considered an International Student if their training, including the basic sciences, occurred at a school outside of the United States. This includes students from "Off Shore" and Caribbean Schools.
Please review the Visiting Student Course Catalog for information on courses and application requirements.
***Please note: The UNM School of Medicine is not accepting any additional applicants for the remainder of the 2018-19 academic year. Catalog information provided is for the upcoming 2019-20 academic year. Departments will begin reviewing 2019-20 applications beginning April 1st, 2019.
NOTICE: The UNM School of Medicine will begin using the AAMC web-based GHLO (Global Health Learning Opportunities) application service for ALL International applicants beginning with the 2019-20 academic year. If you are unsure whether your institution participates in the GHLO program, please contact your home student affairs office. Please keep in mind, per our Visiting MD Student Guidelines (provided in the catalog above), students may NOT seek clerkship “pre-approval” from UNM Faculty or Hospital Staff.
