Informative (experiences with professionals from different fields in a teaching setting) 

Examples:

• IPE Info Series
• Attending the AHEC ECHO Primary Care Clinic or the ECHO Institute TeleECHO programs
• Shadowing a person in another health field
• Attending a lecture from a health professional in another field

Elective (taking one of the Interprofessional Education elective courses) 

Examples:

• One of the courses in the Healing Arts in Medicine program
• The Curanderismo in the Southwest and Mexico course
• The Maternal and Child Health Certificate courses through Population Health
• The Mindfulness, Health and Wellbeing course
• The Geriatric Elective
• The Climate Change and Public Health Preparedness course
• Health Professional Students, residents, and fellows are welcome to propose courses

Interactive (interactive interprofessional education student activities)

Examples:

• UNM HSC Interprofessional Outreaches
• Values, Ethics & Shared Decision-Making Workshop
• HIV in Primary Care
• Participate in an Interprofessional Component of a course they are taking:
  • Transitions of Care
  • Social Determinants of Health
  • Pharmacology in the Clinic
  • Transgender Care Workshop
• Presenting a case for the AHEC ECHO Clinic, Stand Up Geriatric initiative, AOC outreach, WEHC outreach, One Hope Outreach, GEHM Clinic, the Health and Wellness Fitness Outreach, New Day Outreach.

Executive (student leadership in interprofessional education, practice, or community collaboration)

Innovative (development & delivery of an interprofessional education activity or outreach)

• An IPE Seminar on a population health topic
• Developing an interdisciplinary OSCE case study
• Organizing the patient care challenge event
• Participating in PhotoVoice follow-up advocacy/action team
• Building activity for a SECiH outreach day

Initiative (interprofessional quality improvement, capstone, or research project)  

Health Professional students, residents, and fellows can work on a quality improvement project or interprofessional research practice, roles, and responsibilities.  This initiative should highlight the Interprofessional Education Consortium (IPEC) competencies (roles and responsibilities, communication, teamwork, and/or values, ethics, and shared decision-making in a clinical setting or health care system). In addition, participants can work together across disciplines to build a presentation for a conference or deliver an educational offering that addresses one or more of the IPE competencies will also qualify for this category.

Immersive/Reflective (Reflection as a way to explore our experiences of interdisciplinary teams).

4 reflections on clinical rotations.  As Health Professional students, residents or fellows engage in interprofessional clinical, internship, clerkships, or fieldwork rotations they will have the opportunity to reflect on their experiences practicing Inter-professionally and gain credit for these experiences. At least 4 clinical rotation evaluations will be required for this category.

Program Expectations of the student

Once the requirements are met, students can fill out one final reflection which will notify the IPE program that they intend to graduate with the Certificate of IPE Honors, which must be done 90 days prior to graduation.
