CEC Facilitators Training--2016

On January 20 and 28, lunch training sessions were held for facilitators to prepare themselves for the IPE Community Engaged Curriculum.  The training in IPE highlights the highly-skilled nature of facilitating small groups of interprofessional student teams.  Fifty-four faculty were involved in the community-engaged initiative where students conducted key informant interviews, identified community health needs, and made presentations in April of their findings and recommendations to improve the health in 26 Albuquerque communities.

2015 Tour of AOC during Beyond Flexner Conference

During the April 13-15 Beyond Flexner conference, attendees were brought on tours to see first-hand the several community programs that demonstrate UNM's social responsibility.  One of these tours was the Albuquerque Opportunity Center (AOC)—a men’s homeless shelter.  The Interprofessional Student Healthcare Center at the AOC was created to enable students across disciplines to engage in collaborative service-learning opportunities while addressing the complex needs of homeless residents at AOC. The AOC has provided volunteer opportunities here for our students for over ten years.

To listen to the students' overview of their roles at the AOC, and remarks by Cindy Arndell, MD, FACP (School of Medicine) and Loren Kelly, MSN, RN (College of Nursing), go to each of the 3 videos located on Flickr under "2015-04-14 Beyond Flexner--AOC."
