FAQs for Undergraduate Students (excluding the RN to BSN Option)

  • How do I create an account with NursingCAS?  If you’ve never used NursingCAS before, you will need to create a new account. To do so, visit the NursingCAS application and click “Create an Account”.
  • Do I have to enter my entire academic history in addition to the prerequisites? Yes, you need to enter all college-level course work, in addition to the required prerequisites, to complete the application. This includes "W", "F" and "Credit/No Credit" classes. There is no exception to this requirement.
  • Do I need to include references or other information in the "Supporting Information" section? No, these are not required and will not be looked at when ranking applicants.
  • If I have already sent my official transcripts to UNM, do I still need to send them to NursingCAS? Yes, you still need to send all official transcripts to NursingCAS for processing and verification. The UNM CON does not accept official transcripts under any circumstances. 
  • Where do I send my official transcripts? You are required to send all official transcripts to:

  • I need to FedEx/UPS my transcripts overnight, what's the address?

  • Does NursingCAS accept electronic transcripts? Yes, in a limited capacity. Please contact NursingCAS for additional information.

  • The NursingCAS application is asking me to list my classes by freshman, sophomore, etc. How do I figure that out? Check with UNM FastInfo.
  • Do I have to submit my high school transcript? No.
  • I'm on the UNM AMIGO Scholarship, WICHE or WUE. How do I indicate that? There is a question in the "Program Information" section, under the Questions tab, that asks whether you are on AMIGO, WICHE or WUE.
  • I'm unable to attach the "Transcript Request Form" from NursingCAS. What should I do? If you are unable to attach the "Transcript Request Form," please send your official transcript directly to NursingCAS. Once received, NursingCAS will match your transcript with your NursingCAS account when it arrives. 
  • Who should I contact with questions about NursingCAS once I start my application? NursingCAS has a dedicated customer service team available to applicants. Please contact customer service for any questions or concerns, including inquiries about application status, verification, receipt of supporting materials, how to complete the application, uploading documents or submitting reference requests.

  • I am re-applying. Do I have to resend my transcripts to NursingCAS again? You will have to resend your transcripts only if you have additional course work since your prior application.
  • How many enrollment positions does each option have in each application period?

  • Is there a wait list? No. 
  • Do classes ever expire? No.
  • Do I have to be a current UNM Student to apply? No, you do not have to be a current UNM student to apply. If you are accepted into our program, then you would need to apply to UNM.
  • How will I be notified of my acceptance? The UNM CON will notify all applicants about their admission status via the email they used for the NursingCAS application. 
  • What is the difference between an official and unofficial transcript? 
    • An official transcript is one that has been received directly from your college or school. Official transcripts are printed on official transcript paper. It must bear the embossed or raised college seal, date and the registrar's signature. Transcripts that do not meet these requirements are not considered official and will not be accepted. Official transcripts can be sent electronically directly from your college or school.
    • Unofficial transcripts are printed on plain paper and do not have a college seal or registrar's signature. Please note, official sealed transcripts that have been opened are no longer official transcripts and will not be accepted.

  • Do I have to enter my course work in NursingCAS? No.
  • If I have already sent my official transcripts to UNM, do I still need to send them to NursingCAS? No, however you still need to upload unofficial transcripts to NursingCAS.
  • Do I have to submit my high school transcript? No.
  • Do I have to be a current UNM student to apply? No, you do not have to be a current UNM student to apply. If you are accepted into our program, then you would need to apply to UNM Graduate Admissions.
