Applications are now open for the August 2025 class! Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through December 17, 2024 and selected applicants will be contacted for interviews to be conducted via Zoom.
Applicants need to create an account and complete an application through Centralized Application Service for Anesthesiologist Assistants (CASAA). Please view the CASAA Quick Start Guide and FAQs page if you have any queries about your application.
Under the Program Materials section, you will need to upload:
*Personal statement: Applicants are required to submit a personal statement. This document should focus on explaining your motivation for selecting a career in healthcare and, specifically, why you're interested in becoming a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant.
**Technical Standards: Please see Admissions Information below for further information regarding program physical and technical standards.
All materials should be submitted to and through the CASAA application platform. We require official test scores to be sent to CASAA by the testing agency; official transcripts should be sent by your Registrar to CASAA.
Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 grading scale of the last 60 credits hours and a pre-requisite minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 grading scale.
*Undergraduate and graduate coursework factors into GPAs. Only coursework completed at the time of application submissions will be factored into all GPAs. All attempts of courses that fall within the parameters of each GPA calculation are factored into GPAs for admission to the AA program, regardless of whether the course was repeated or the grade was "replaced".
All applicants applying to the UNM Master of Science in Anesthesia Program are required to complete the Casper online assessment for the current admissions cycle.
The Casper assessment is a standardized, multi-part online assessment that measures different competencies and attributes that we believe are important for successful students and graduates of our program. The assessments will complement the other tools that we use for applicant review and evaluation. In implementing Acuity Insights Assessments, we are trying to further enhance fairness and objectivity in our selection process.
You will register for the Casper assessment: 90-110 minute online, open-response situational judgment test. Access AcuityInsights.app to create an account and for more information on important dates and requirements.
We recommend that you complete the Casper assessment before or concurrently with the submission of your application to ensure there is no delay in the review of your application. Your application will be considered complete only after all components of the CASAA application and your assessment results have been received.
*Please note that applicants wishing to be considered for the August 2025 cohort must complete their Casper assessment before or on December 5th, 2024.
Applicants must be admitted to the University of New Mexico once accepted to the MSA program. Information on this process will be sent to accepted applicants.

The UNM Anesthesiologist Assistant Program utilizes a holistic application review process. Overall qualities of all applicants will be reviewed and the highest consideration will be given to applicants who:
Each student must possess general abilities required of most healthcare practitioners, and specific abilities that relate more directly to the practice of anesthesia. Essential requirements include, but are not limited to, the following
A disability does not preclude a student from admission, and the MSA Program makes reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities. However, each enrolled student is expected to demonstrate, without unreasonable dependence on technology or intermediaries, the skills and attributes outlined in the program’s Physical & Technical Requirements policy.
Foreign national applicants who would like to be considered for admission are expected to have the equivalent of at least two years of full-time undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited college or university in the United States, and to have all the same required course prerequisites.
