The UNM Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine offers a high-quality, flexible residency in Albuqerque, NM. This four-year, nationally accredited training program includes a one-year internship and three years of clinical anesthesiology. You will have a diversity of patients, including pediatric, ICU and trauma cases. Upon graduation, you will be prepared for a career in general or academic anesthesiology.

The Division of Pain Medicine in the UNM Department of Anethesiology and Critical Care Medicine offers an ACGME-accredited 12-month program, which will prepare you to offer high-tech, effective pain solutions in clinical and ICU settings.

In this 12-month program, you’ll train in the inpatient Acute Pain Service with adult patients and care for pediatric patients at UNM Children’s Hospital. One day a week, you will rotate in the OR as an attending.

The Master of Science in Anesthesia program boasts a one-of-a-kind academic curriculum, ensuring that our graduates are equipped with the highest level of knowledge and expertise in the field of anesthesia. The 28 month, 116 credit hour program will provide students with over 800 hours of didactic and simulation based learning, as well as over 2,200 patient-contact hours of clinical training. All third year UNM medical students complete a one-week rotation in anesthesia. This rotation is conducted through the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care.
As a medical student in this phase two rotation, you will learn basic concepts in applied pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, IV placement and airway management.
