Many residents enjoy outdoor activities, such as skiing, hiking, mountain and road biking, camping, indoor/outdoor climbing, and running, which are all available in Albuquerque and its surrounding areas. Our national parks, monuments, and wilderness provide the natural beauty New Mexico is known for. Weekend adventures are just around the corner when you have world-class fly fishing, whitewater rafting/kayaking, and the Southern Rockies at your door. Temperate winters and summers ensure year-round outdoor fun!
Our family-friendly residency in an affordable city allows our residents to enjoy the many family-oriented activities Albuquerque has to offer. Residents with children often visit city parks, the Albuquerque Biopark (zoo, aquarium, and botanic gardens), Explora (children’s museum), and the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. Albuquerque has an excellent public library system as well. Residents with school-aged children choose among public, charter, parochial, and private schools for their education. Many residents (with or without children) purchase homes in our wonderful community.
Through UNM, residents can access sporting and cultural events including UNM Lobos games and Broadway musicals and shows at Popejoy Hall. Community events include the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, Albuquerque Little Theatre, Ballet Repertory Theatre of New Mexico, Santa Fe Opera, New Mexico United USL Soccer and Albuquerque Isotopes minor league baseball. Residents and faculty also socialize outside of work, including happy hours and outdoor activities. In addition, Santa Fe's beautiful art galleries and museums are only a short drive away.
